Our Story
In 2008, at Columbia University Law School, two aspiring lawyers, Sophie and Stella, met and quickly bonded over their shared passion for education. As they engaged in discussions about history and law, they discovered their mutual interest in shaping education to meet the ever-changing demands of modern times. Both grew up in a relatively resource-scarce era in China, fueling their desire to provide a better future with broader perspectives and enhanced capabilities for the next generation.
Over the years, as they advanced in their careers and eventually became mothers, Sophie and Stella’s conversations about the best ways to educate their children aligned perfectly. This synergy led them to establish Lumine Academy Inc. They leveraged their extensive professional networks and the knowledge accumulated throughout their educational and career journeys to create individualized nurturing experiences. Lumine was founded with the aim of bringing the best and most personalized education to more families, ensuring that children are well-equipped to thrive in today’s dynamic world.
The name “Lumine” was inspired by the motto of Columbia University, “In thy light shall we see light,” which is derived from Psalm 36:9, “For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light,” capturing the essence of enlightenment and knowledge. The transliteration of "Lumine” into Chinese as “鹿鸣” echoes the ancient ode “呦呦鹿鸣，食野之苹,” from the Classic of Poetry, which depicts a scene of talented youths gathering joyously.
